Tabi Meets Stiletto: A Love Story by Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin

A collaboration that epitomizes the marriage of avant-garde deconstruction and high-gloss femininity, the Maison Margiela x Christian Louboutin footwear collection is set to launch on March 12, 2025. Unveiled during Margiela’s breathtaking 2024 Artisanal show under the Pont Alexandre III in Paris, this partnership is a seamless fusion of the brands’ distinct yet complementary aesthetics.

Christian Louboutin, renowned for his sensual, sculptural stilettos, and John Galliano, Maison Margiela’s visionary creative director, have long admired each other’s work. Their collaboration breathes new life into two iconic styles: Margiela’s legendary Tabi and Louboutin’s signature heels. The result? A collection of seven couture-worthy designs that reimagine each house’s DNA while paying homage to the other.

Louboutin brings his signature craftsmanship to the Tabi, refining its silhouette with a deeper décolleté and a sleeker, more feminine shape. Some variations are encrusted with crystals, embodying the opulence synonymous with Louboutin’s red-soled universe. On the other hand, Galliano deconstructs classic Louboutin pumps through Maison Margiela’s décortiqué technique, stripping shoes down to their raw essence while maintaining an air of ethereal sophistication. Standout pieces include the Martinloula, a sculptural stiletto that seamlessly blends the codes of both houses, and the Martoubi, which Louboutin himself describes as the perfect encapsulation of their shared vision.

This collection isn’t just about footwear—it’s about storytelling. For Louboutin, the Artisanal 2024 show that inspired the collaboration was a moment of pure magic. “It was the only runway show that has ever made me cry,” he confessed, recalling the hauntingly beautiful scene Galliano orchestrated beneath the bridge, a nod to 1930s Parisian nightlife. That night, fashion was more than just clothing; it was poetry, nostalgia, and an unfiltered expression of artistry.

With this collection, Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin push the boundaries of craftsmanship, proving that when two creative forces collide, the result is nothing short of extraordinary. As the countdown to its release begins, one thing is certain—this is more than just a collection; it’s a moment in fashion history.
